We’ve all heard the saying “time flies when you’re having fun” and I’d like to present a new perspective to that old saying. Time flies when you’re living life. Recently, I’ve noticed how quickly time gets away from us. Growing up, my ‘elders’ would always tell me that the older you get the faster time flies. As a kid and a young person, I don’t know that I agreed with it or could even acknowledge it.

However, now as an adult who has more of my life behind me that in front of me more than likely, I have to agree with that perspective that time does go faster as we advance in years. You notice I didn’t say we ‘age’ but yes we do. We advance in years but do we have to get ‘older’ in our mindset? I say no way for me anyway.

There seems to be a stigma around aging. If you’ve read much of my writing, you may have read that I used to work in a Continuing Care Retirement Community. Oh that was one of the most fun jobs / positions where I ever had the privilege of working . It never seemed like real work because I was around the most lively and positive folks all the time. I could say that the older they were, at least most of them, the younger at heart they were.

We went out to 5 star restaurants, theaters, musicals, long trips to see well known sights. Many of them said they were busier in retirement than when they were working their jobs and professions. How’s that for a different take on living life as you ‘age’? I’ve written previously on age is just a number and it is only a number. Time flies when we are living life. Are you ‘living’ your life? Or are you existing? If you have a dream, go after it with all your heart and passions. If you want to sit and rock your life away as you get older do it or if you’re one to stay active, I say do that.

Don’t fall into the trap of what you ‘should’ be doing because you are a certain age / number. Don’t be a statistic. Be the exception not the rule if you will. Beat the odds my friends and go live your life. You’re the only one who can live YOUR life. A number is just that, a number. Dance, sing, write, just LIVE!
