SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

Everyone knows this song from “The Wizard Of Oz” don’t they? I recently finished a book entitled “Finding Dorothy” about the history of the movie and historical details on the life of the writer. It was an awe inspiring book and I appreciate the movie even more as well as the song.

What that song says about hope and the possibility of finding a better life speaks volumes to me. It speaks of waking up with our troubles far behind us. Skies are blue and dreams that we dare to dream really do come true. Dorothy in the movie was in Oz and looking to the wizard to help her find a way back to Kansas. Of course the good witch, Glenda, tells Dorothy that she had always had the power to get back and essentially make her own dreams come true.

Now, let me say that life frequently does not feel that way but the opposite. We don’t need the wizard or Glenda the good witch. We have all the ability we need inside of us. Glenda was right about that. After watching the movie again just recently, I realize there is so much depth to it and so many truths from the characters. At the end, when Dorothy was speaking with Glenda in Emerald City, Dorothy said she would never forget that she had what she needed in her own backyard. We need look no further than that ourselves. Let’s consider our hearts our backyards.

All we need is within us. The ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ is inside of us if we take the time to sit, reflect, be still and see it. The tin man wanted a heart so the wizard told him that the heart is judged by how much you are loved by others. It speaks of the impact we have on others not just how much we can love. And there is a song called “Tin Man” by America that says “Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn’t already have.” So true. And the same with the Scarecrow and the cowardly Lion. They simply had it all along and were only given a visible representation of what they went to Oz to receive.

Dorothy wanted ‘home’ and she had it all along inside her and only needed to look inside to find it. Glenda, the good witch said Dorothy had to find out herself instead of being told from the start about it. Along the way, Dorothy met Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man and on the road to Oz. You never know whose life you will impact on your road to ‘Oz’.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow says that is where skies are blue and dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Troubles come my friends, but also like clouds they keep moving and float away. You have access to the blue skies and I encourage you to dare to dream. Dream BIG and keep dreaming. Let that dream come alive while you are. Don’t wait another moment to grab ahold of that rainbow.
