be yourself; sing and dance to your own tune

Dance Your Own Dance; Sing Your Own Song

In a world where here are so many ‘me too’s, be real. Be genuine. Be “younique” and be yourself. At times I wonder if anyone knows how to simply be who they are versus being like someone else. You are the only ‘you’ there is on planet earth. There are times it is tempting to copy another person without question.

As babies and young children, we learn by mimicking our parents and others. However, there comes a time in life when we need to see that we are not our parents or anyone else. How do you learn who you are as opposed to another? It takes time and introspection is my personal opinion. We may see traits in others that we like and want to adopt. That’s normal.

Most of us have heard of cloning by now and that some sort of genetic scientific thing that has taken place over the years. Yet, you are not a clone. You are only you even if you are a twin. After many years of looking within and spending considerable amounts of time learning who I am, my song and dance are emerging.

We each have a song and dance within us to share with the world. We are all individuals. My dance is not your dance and my song is not your song. You can try to be like me, but what a boring world it would be if we were all just alike, dancing and singing the same dance and the same song. That brings up the point of comparison.

Comparison leads to frustration and defeat. We can all learn from each other while maintaining our own individuality in our lives. You have something inside you that the world, your world needs. Only you can discover that for yourself. I have had a lot of people in my life help me find my uniqueness but in the end, I had to embrace it and see that it aligns with who I know I am.

What’s your dance? What’s your song? Have you found it? Is it eluding you? My advice is to sit quietly, maybe with a journal, be still and listen. What stirs your soul? What sets you on fire with passion? Be honest with yourself and be bold to share your dance and your song, whatever that may be. No two people on earth are the same and we all have our place here to make a difference in the lives of those we cross paths with.

My encouragement to you is to find that dance; find that song. Dance and sing with all your might. Go grab your dancing shoes and your microphone. Let’s have a be yourself party. Ready?
