ARE YOU ENOUGH?
An emphatic, Yes! You are enough. Why do we walk through life wondering if we have what it takes or if we are enough in our lives? Because we have been programmed to compare ourselves with others. This is something I have dealt with and yes, struggled with most of my life albeit unknowingly most of the time.
In the last few days and weeks it has become increasingly apparent to me however. I am thankful I am more aware of it. How does this show up in our lives? In business, we look at someone who is more successful and doing more or doing better than we are. Let’s settle this ok? We are all unique and different in every way. We can learn from others without question. But that’s where it stops folks.
I have been asked this question several times in the past; “who would you like to be if you could be anyone else?” My answer is no one. I only want to be me and yet most I dare say don’t know who they are so they look around and frequently point to a celebrity or someone rich, famous or both. We don’t know what the life of the other person is really like. How do you know you want to be someone else?
Of course, we may want to make more money to live a life we desire and there is nothing wrong with that. You should aspire to be the person you were created to be and do it with all your heart. I don’t suggest we should settle for less. If you have a dream, go for it but go for it as YOU! Not as the ‘some’ other person you would like to be.
Comparison is deadly and leads to feeling less than and not worthy. The ugly question of why am I the way I am? Doing some deep soul searching lately has made me aware of why I do some of the things I do such as not speaking up in groups and wondering if I have anything worth saying. But I do have something to say. I am a person who is a deep thinker and speak when I have something to share. I am not anyone but me.
I was talking with a friend recently about this and I said I don’t have the degrees others do and I speak simply. That makes me uniquely me. You can only be you. So be the best you you can possibly be. Don’t compare yourself to others. You are worthy. Don’t fake being someone you are not. It takes a lot of energy and courage to learn who you really are guys. Be YOU!
Stop worrying about what anyone else may think. It’s not important what others think. What do you think? Get to know yourself and be proud of who you are. Live your life and stop wishing for someone else’s. You are enough. You matter. You are important. There is only one you and the world needs the you that you truly are.
