LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Does life feel like a game sometimes? Maybe most of the time? I feel that way myself more than I can say. That perspective can actually be a good one and a fun way to look at your world. I was inspired to write this blog by a fantastic movie about a runner / hurdle jumper who had all the odds stacked against him.
The movie is “RACE”. The song is titled “Let The Games Begin”. Both the movie and the song lift your spirits and inspire a new perspective. (The link is shared below.) The athlete is Jesse Owens who overcame one hurdle after another, pun intended.
Now, I’m no athlete and have never aspired to be one. As a matter of fact, I detested PE in school. Walking and weight lifting are more to my liking. However, I can relate to this story of his struggles as I have had to jump over, crawl under or move hurdles out of my way frequently.
Even to this day obstacles pop up in front of me to face and deal with, Admittedly, a large portion of my life I spent hiding from those obstacles. They were like monsters hiding in a closet and loved to jump out and say “I’m still here!”. Thankfully I have learned many lessons and there are not so many monsters.
Hurdles, what are they? Obstacles or difficulties. Oh yes and of course they are upright frames an athlete must jump over in a race. Frankly, I don’t like either one. If you’ve read my writing before you know I have had obstacles that are more like boulders or a freight train headed right for me. I’m still here!
A few lines from the song are:
“This is the moment of a lifetime
Made it through the dark; now it’s time to let your light shine
When the story could end, the glory and it’s yours to choose
When the stakes are high and you know you’ve got so much to lose“
In life we have time that we are in a moment of a lifetime and we get to choose to keep going to let the story end. Maybe it’s not glory you seek but simply a victory over our thoughts and our perceptions. I’ve lived through some dark times and learned so much in the dark. Now it’s time to let my light shine.
If you see a light coming through a dark tunnel, it’s not necessarily a train to take you out. It could be the very train to put you on a new track in your life. If a boulder is in front of you it may be that rock you can climb on to see the new horizon in front of you. Stakes can be very high in life, yet you can win at the game of life.
A few more lines from the song:
“The will to win is all in your mind
So don’t hold back, put it all on the line
Though it’s hard to go on, be strong and keep pushing through
All your friends and your family back home, they have faith in you
Then it’s all so very clear
There’s a reason you’re here”
You can win at this game called life so let the games begin, there’s a reason you’re here!
