BEAUTY

We’ve all heard it said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is certainly a true statement. What I see as beautiful you may not care for at all. It is a wonderful thing that we don’t have to all see things through the same lens so to speak.

Some of my favorite things I consider beautiful are animals such as cats, dogs, horses, deer and of course birds. But actually all creatures are beautiful to behold and so are all people. I also love and appreciate the beauty in a landscape. I won’t get into anything concerning politics, religion or the like here. I like to keep my blogs more along the lines of happy thoughts.

The definition of ‘beauty’ according to Merriam Webster is “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit”. I would agree with that definition. It is all about how we behold the object we are seeing.

Beauty in a person isn’t about shape, size, color of the eyes, age, financial position or what they do. It is widely known and accepted that what we see on a screen, a book or a magazine can be manipulated with software. And wouldn’t it be a perfect world if we could Photoshop our lives, our bodies and perhaps the ones around us? Oops!

I do like the expression that says to see things with fresh eyes. Perhaps it is a good time to do that and I wholeheartedly suggest starting with seeing ourselves from a new perspective. No one and no thing on our beautiful planet is perfect. Seeing the imperfections as a thing of beauty in your life is a good place to start.

When we start seeing beauty somewhere unexpected, we will see more of it everywhere. By making it a practice to put on our rose colored glasses to view ourselves and those people and things around us, we will start to impact others and change our world.

It is also a healthy habit. By changing your perspective of beauty, you change your life. Life can be hard and no one is immune or hasn’t had some form or ugliness they have dealt with. The song, “It’s a beautiful morning” is one to get stuck in your head. It’s a happy song!

So let me ask you based on Merriam Websters definition, what gives your senses pleasure or exalts your mind or spirit? Take a moment and consider that. I’m going to go now and do the same.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…….
