MY SILVER LINING

What an spectacular site it is to see the sun behind the clouds just teasing us with it’s rays of light beaming from behind. It’s not cloudy or sunny completely but just peaking out enough to display it’s array of silver.

There is a song by First Aid Kit titled “My Silver Lining”. The lyrics draw you in and the music has a mysterious and haunting sound. The harmonies the gals have takes you to another place and time.

As I sit and write this there is a soft rain falling outside and sounds of distant thunder. I love thunderstorms. The smell of the rain as it cleanses the air brings a freshness through my open window. In the middle of a storm many times it is challenging to see the silver lining but be assured, there is one.

This particular song I happened upon while on YouTube. I don’t actually recall what I was looking for or doing. Now for a bit about the lyrics of this song and some hope for someone out there looking for their ‘Silver Lining’.

The first line is “I don’t want to wait anymore, I’m tired of looking for answers. Take me some place where there’s music and there’s laughter.” Yes, please! Music and laughter can heal the soul. I love music and sometimes it’s uplifting and other times you simply fall into it and let it carry you to a mysterious place. When you stop and consider, so many times we are looking too hard and the answers come in the stillness and in the calm.

“I don’t know if I’m scared of dying but I’m scared of living too fast, too slow.” I agree! Life moves very quickly if we don’t stop and embrace the present moment. Take for instance writing. When I sit to share my thoughts with you, there are times inspiration is fleeting. I put on some gentle jazz and let my fingers find the words to say.

Now for another thoughtful line or two from this song to cause you to stop and consider. “Something good comes with the bad; A song’s never just sad. There’s hope, there’s a silver lining. Show me my silver lining.” There have been times in my life that a silver lining was as elusive as the wind and seemed as impossible to catch. And then, there it is with a rainbow to follow. Hope is there. A silver lining is coming. Be open to see it. Don’t let yourself be blinded by the pain.

One final line “I won’t take the easy road.” It can be enticing to take the easy road for an easy way out. But is it really easy? Or is it another illusion? Life can be hard, period. Life can challenge us in every direction and yes, it seems to come in all at once. Stop and look for the silver lining and the hope of a brighter day.

“Show me my silver lining. I try to keep on keeping on.” Stop. Smell the rain. Breathe deeply. Let the storm pass by and look up. Keep on keeping on.
