SYNCHRONICITY & SERENDIPITY

What is synchronicity? What is serendipity? Funny you should ask. I’ve been intrigued by those words for a while and they keep coming to the forefront of my mind. No doubt I need to write about them.

Synchronicity is the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible casual connection. And serendipity means the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

Instead of a “scientific” approach, I’m taking a look at these from a life perspective. Do you remember the movie, “Serendipity” with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale? They keep finding each other by happy coincidence. She believes in destiny and he finds love at first sight. They bump into each other while shopping for the same pair of gloves. They keep bumping into each other and decide a way to see if it’s fate that will bring them back together. 10 years later they found each other again.

I like to relate synchronicity to synchronized swimming. We say they are all in sync, all coming together with the same motion at the same time. Also, it can mean a meaningful coincidence. With such similarities, I was even more curious.

I like to refer to serendipity also as divine connection. And synchronicity in my understanding is like someone comes to your mind and then you receive a call or text from them. Have you ever said, ‘I was just thinking about you”?

Here’s another thought on these two amazing words. The difference between serendipity and synchronicity is that serendipity is an unsought, unintended, and/or unexpected, but fortunate discovery and/or learning experience that happens by accident while synchronicity is (uncountable) the state of being synchronous or simultaneous (in sync).

My final thoughts are don’t discount divine connections and divine timing. Call it fate, destiny, your choice, however, stay open to those happy coincidences. You just can’t tell…..
