BUTTER

You may ask yourself why I am writing a blog about butter. Keep reading and you’ll find out. I am telling a story from my past that few know about. It’s quite humorous too. In the movie “Last Holiday” with Queen Latifah, she thinks she has a death sentence with a brain disease. I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it yet. There is a scene with her and Gerard Depardieu who plays a chef. In this scene, they are shopping for items for the New Years Eve dinner at a fancy resort and she has become friends with him. When they are in the outdoor market, he says to her, “You and I know the secret to life: it’s butter.” Of course he says it with a French accent that I am not able to duplicate here, but it’s stuck with me for years since I saw it for the first time (and the second, third, fourth, etc.). Anyone who knows me well, knows I LOVE butter, I mean really love butter. I do get teased about it often by those who know and now of course, it’s public knowledge ha ha ha ha! I can eat it by itself and of course, I recall my grandmother and great aunt serving it fresh from the cream that was churned and then chilled. There’s nothing like the old fashioned kind.

Thank you for waiting for my butter story. I don’t know my exact age, however, I was about 3 or 4 years old from what I recall my Mom telling me. Being from the south and all, butter was always abundant in the fridge. One glorious day, I opened the refrigerator and got a stick of butter out. I pulled a kitchen chair away from the table and somehow with super strength (must be from eating butter) I managed to drag it over to the kitchen counter. I climbed my sweet southern little self right up and sat down on the counter. My prize awaits! I opened the luscious creamy goodie from it’s wax paper wrapping. I chomped right down on that beauty. I may have eaten half of it before my Mom walked in and discovered her butter thief. No regrets on my part. I was rather proud of myself that day and it set up a precedent for years to come to this very day. No, I don’t need to sneak it out of the fridge or climb on the counter to savor it, however, I do savor it.

My advice is savor life, always….see you soon
